Frazier, April06:56:47 pmTook my 8 year old and his friend to a water park this weekend up in Thief River Falls to the 7 clans hotel. They had a blast! My dad lives on Red Lake Reservation, so he came to the water park and spent the day. It was super nice to see him.

Ascheman, Rosalie07:03:52 pmMy mom's family is from TRF! I love it up there! <3
Kirchoff, Heather07:04:04 pmThis was the first full summer of my baby girl being here! An absolute joy to spend it with her and my other kiddos, seeing them all so active and enamored with one another. About to celebrate her first birthday in 2 weeks, and just cleaned up from a third birthday for her brother!
Evans, Casey07:04:22 pmI was the plus 1 to a wedding this weekend so I put on a face of makeup, heels and curled my hair for the first time, in what feels like since my youngest was born last summer haha. I even shaved my legs!
Peralta, Mirla07:04:26 pmWell, nothing too exciting, but I finally got to take a 3-week vacation after two years of working 10-hour days non-stop. So right now, I’m basically just living life to the fullest! LOL
{Lowe, Brenda}07:04:53 pmHeather that just made me smile. That would be my fun news too - my youngest granddaughter born in January... first summer with her. So fun
Frazier, April06:58:08 pmCasey LOL
Evans, Casey07:04:58 pmHeather -- so so true! My youngest just turned one and now my older two turn 5 and 7 in the next two months. It goes too too fast!
Kirchoff, Heather07:05:00 pmCasey - nothing gives the "I can conquer the world" feeling quite like some fresh shaved legs! Especially if its been awhile.. lol
{Lowe, Brenda}07:05:23 pmCasey doesn't that just feel great to do that
{Foster-Jorgensen, Karen}07:05:21 pmSounds like a joyous summer all around! Much needed after long days and months of leadership!! πŸ™‚

Yoswa, Toni07:07:41 pmThank you! Everyone elses stuff sounds way more fun! LOL
Frazier, April07:01:21 pmI have been watching The Handsmades
Frazier, April07:01:27 pmTale
Yoswa, Toni07:08:19 pmLittle edgy.."Hunting Wives"
{Lowe, Brenda}07:08:33 pmHandmaids one of my favs
{Lowe, Brenda}07:08:58 pmHunting wives I've started but then got sidetraced as I've been binging Plathville from the begining
Kirchoff, Heather07:09:04 pmBeen a busy summer but I did fit in The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives and The Handmaids Tale somehow.. (somehow meaning I definitely should've been sleeping and not up watching TV.. but oh well!)
Peralta, Mirla07:09:14 pm@Casey thanks for the words in the discussion board Casey, i would love to chat with your mom! Is there a way i can reach out directly to you or her?
{Lowe, Brenda}07:09:27 pmI've thought of that a few times Heather HA
Ascheman, Rosalie07:09:11 pmI read 16 books this summer! I think my favorite book was The Unmaking of June Farrow!
{Lowe, Brenda}07:09:41 pmoooooo nice Rosalie
{Lowe, Brenda}07:09:52 pmI'm impressed with the shear number of books Rosalie
Ross, Amber07:09:51 pmMe too!
{Lowe, Brenda}07:10:03 pmNice idea Mirla
Ascheman, Rosalie07:09:50 pmI have 54 so far this year. It's all I do!

Ascheman, Rosalie07:14:02 pmIs the written assignment sort of like a research report?
Kirchoff, Heather07:14:23 pmIs there a minimum requirement with Wednesdays assignment, or just write what we need to cover the parameters of whats asked?
{Lowe, Brenda}07:15:21 pmafter I recieve your assignments I will assign you an Advisor. The lovely Karen Foster- Jorgensen is with us tonight, and then the amazing two others are Kim Woehl, and Nancy Hafner. Look out for an email from us.
{Lowe, Brenda}07:15:40 pmHeather write the parameters of what you are planning to help your advisor

{Foster-Jorgensen, Karen}07:15:45 pmThanks Brenda! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚
{Lowe, Brenda}07:15:53 pmgreat question
{Lowe, Brenda}07:16:01 pmπŸ™‚

Brank, Nicole07:16:12 pm*
{Lowe, Brenda}07:16:30 pm What is your experience with completing a capstone project?
Ross, Amber07:16:31 pmThis will be my first one.... πŸ™‚
Roering, Angela07:16:38 pmNone. This is all new for me! πŸ™‚
Frazier, April07:09:56 pmNever done one or heard of it before this course
Brank, Nicole07:16:42 pmThis will be my first one.
Ascheman, Rosalie07:16:46 pmI completed one for my bachelor's but I'm pretty sure it was just a paper and not an actual project that I have to present
Peralta, Mirla07:17:26 pmThis is actually my first time hearing about a capstone project, so I don’t have any prior experience with it. I’m definitely open to learning more and excited to see how I can grow through the process.
{Lowe, Brenda}07:17:53 pmRight! Most of us have not had much experience and so I'm sure there are much nerves around this. No worries... just know that we are here to guide you
{Lowe, Brenda}07:17:58 pmWhat skills and techniques do you want to learn or improve throughout this course?
Yoswa, Toni07:17:55 pmI have completed them, but not in this form, and was over longer period of time.
Evans, Casey07:18:01 pm** This is my first!
{Lowe, Brenda}07:18:19 pmok thank you
Kirchoff, Heather07:18:26 pmI was actually a Biology: Allied Health major in college. I had to complete a capstone project and present my data/information at a gala-esque presentation night and submit it to a relevant agency. I studied the affects of retinoic acid on zebrafish spinal cord development as part of a larger scope research with Multiple Sclerosis. Not early education related.. but quite the experience!
{Lowe, Brenda}07:18:56 pmOh Heather that was a biggie!!
Evans, Casey07:18:49 pm**Rosalie, you are exactly right actually, I have done one before but it was industry related to Mortuary Science/Funeral Directing so it looked much different!
Evans, Casey07:19:07 pmHeather -- you're a rockstar!
Ascheman, Rosalie07:19:04 pmI wanted to go into mortuary science! Funny!
{Lowe, Brenda}07:19:42 pmI had to giggle at that one Casey - yup different than early childhood...but similar 'frame'
Evans, Casey07:19:46 pm**Rosalie, it is my "first passion" but I have realized that my passion is really just -- compassion! <3
{Foster-Jorgensen, Karen}07:19:51 pmOne of the things cohort members before you have found important is to choose a topic that interests you and will benefit your leadership and your organization! Accomplish many great things through this one project!!
{Lowe, Brenda}07:20:04 pm*
Ross, Amber07:19:59 pm*
Evans, Casey07:20:03 pm*
Kirchoff, Heather07:20:05 pm*
Roering, Angela07:20:07 pm*
Yoswa, Toni07:20:09 pm*
Brank, Nicole07:20:11 pm*
Ascheman, Rosalie07:20:01 pm*
Peralta, Mirla07:20:17 pmLOL Casey! definitely different
Frazier, April07:13:31 pm*
{Lowe, Brenda}07:20:30 pmIn a few wordss....What skills and techniques do you want to learn or improve throughout this course?
Peralta, Mirla07:20:24 pm*
Frazier, April07:14:13 pmHow better my interview and onboarding process to be more relevant and efficient.
Ross, Amber07:21:18 pmbe successful at my first capstone project πŸ™‚ I shift in thinking on how to really better onboarding to be more efficient!
Ascheman, Rosalie07:21:20 pmI want to work on time management! I'm really good at procrastinating and I would like to be better at getting things done in a timely manner
Yoswa, Toni07:21:54 pmCommunity engagement and family engagement and focus
Brank, Nicole07:21:59 pmTime management and onboarding for parents
{Lowe, Brenda}07:22:11 pmok this helps give insight into how you are thinking and where your head is at
Roering, Angela07:22:09 pmI would like to increase our efficiencies through technology and other tools
Ascheman, Rosalie07:22:23 pmI mean... that's not what my project is on, but it would definitely help me complete my project
Kirchoff, Heather07:22:36 pmImplementation! Lots of great ideas and things I'm always wanting to do.. or start to do.. but struggle with getting them into action. Some of that is time management, task management/prioritization (putting out fires comes first...), or the confidence to put something new out there.
{Lowe, Brenda}07:22:49 pmit's ok to think... I want to know what to do for a capstone so I can utilize this in the future. That's ok if that is where you are at too
Peralta, Mirla07:22:42 pmI want to learn techniques for turning ideas into practical action steps and Improving my leadership and communication skills will also help me build stronger partnerships with families and the community.
{Lowe, Brenda}07:22:59 pmexactly Heather
Evans, Casey07:22:54 pm**I would like to focus on the technique of prioritizing when it comes to all of the things 'Director'. I will get caught up in the daily "sticky notes" and employee quick-chats and then my other work is piled up at the end of the day or on my next day to-do list
{Lowe, Brenda}07:23:11 pm*
Evans, Casey07:23:06 pm*
Brank, Nicole07:23:07 pm*
Ascheman, Rosalie07:22:57 pm*
Kirchoff, Heather07:23:10 pm*
Roering, Angela07:23:15 pm*
Peralta, Mirla07:23:16 pm*
Yoswa, Toni07:23:21 pm*
{Lowe, Brenda}07:23:38 pmLet's help you to think about this a bit..... What does being an effective leader mean to you?
Frazier, April07:16:44 pm*
Ascheman, Rosalie07:23:56 pmIt means supporting and guiding others in the right direction
Brank, Nicole07:24:09 pmguiding staff toward common goals
Frazier, April07:17:37 pmSomeone who knows the ins and outs of the job, someone who is willing to grow in their field.
Peralta, Mirla07:24:25 pmTo me, being an effective leader means guiding with empathy, clear communication, and leading by example.
Yoswa, Toni07:24:29 pmMaking a difference, approachable, fair, and consistent along with empathy.
Ross, Amber07:24:29 pmFinding the balance between keeping staff and families feeling safe/appreciated while staying within budgets
Kirchoff, Heather07:24:54 pmSomeone who gets things done! Again, that implementation. Anything from policy change, to growing staff's skillsets, to physical changes at the center
{Lowe, Brenda}07:25:11 pmOhhh yes
Ross, Amber07:25:12 pmYes Heather!
{Lowe, Brenda}07:25:27 pmHeather you are making me giggle
Ascheman, Rosalie07:25:14 pmYes! I love that Heather!
{Lowe, Brenda}07:25:40 pmot
Roering, Angela07:25:36 pmSuccessfully communicate with staff and parents. Organizing and implementing daily tasks. Empowers the team to succeed.
{Lowe, Brenda}07:25:45 pmoops
{Lowe, Brenda}07:25:48 pmit's so true
Kirchoff, Heather07:26:14 pmI'm working hards towards being that effective leader! lol!
Yoswa, Toni07:26:55 pmBiggest thing, if you say youre going to do something...you do it. Follow through!
{Lowe, Brenda}07:27:08 pmAll of these ideas are what drive us with our capstone project. think about how can I better my program? be a better leader? build a better community? make things better for children and families
Evans, Casey07:27:04 pm**Effective leader -- leads up example, follows through with what they say they are going to work to get done for the team, offers support and resources to employees, communicates good and tough situations with employees/families,
Ross, Amber07:27:08 pmToni, yes! Trust is important!
{Foster-Jorgensen, Karen}07:27:20 pmIdentifying all these important traits is a wonderful step forward!
{Lowe, Brenda}07:27:33 pmImplement all of these things that are driving you into your project
Evans, Casey07:27:59 pm**Leads by example I meant!
{Lowe, Brenda}07:28:08 pmWhat's neat is that you are going to work on a project you are passionate about
{Lowe, Brenda}07:28:48 pmand then you will get a chance to share your ideas in our last live chat together - that one will be via zoom wehre you will showcase your ideas in 5 min. Like a show and tell
{Lowe, Brenda}07:29:00 pmWe like show and tell in this field
{Lowe, Brenda}07:29:12 pm*
Brank, Nicole07:29:06 pm*
Ascheman, Rosalie07:28:57 pm*
Kirchoff, Heather07:29:10 pm*
Ross, Amber07:29:09 pm*
Yoswa, Toni07:29:11 pm*
Roering, Angela07:29:16 pm*
{Foster-Jorgensen, Karen}07:29:17 pm*
Evans, Casey07:29:22 pm*
Frazier, April07:22:38 pm*
{Lowe, Brenda}07:29:53 pmHow will you seek support from your learning community and instructor?
{Lowe, Brenda}07:30:27 pm...again think about your project
Frazier, April07:23:49 pmAsk questions when I am unsure of what to do or where to go next.
Yoswa, Toni07:30:40 pmto be determined, possibly navigation of the project, what comes next, type of questions.
Ross, Amber07:30:46 pmask quetions!
Brank, Nicole07:30:49 pmask questions
{Lowe, Brenda}07:31:19 pmWho will you ask?
Peralta, Mirla07:31:15 pmBy asking questions when I need clarification, sharing ideas and feedback with classmates, and staying open to guidance and positive criticism.
Evans, Casey07:31:16 pm**Request input on how to get exactly what I am wanting to showcase/portray in my engagement with that particular community business (the library) so that it is clear and concise on my hopeful result/outcome-!
Frazier, April07:24:37 pmAdvisor
Ross, Amber07:31:23 pmadvisor, peers
Yoswa, Toni07:31:30 pmAdvisor
Peralta, Mirla07:31:32 pmadvisor and classmates
Brank, Nicole07:31:36 pmour advisor
Ascheman, Rosalie07:31:35 pmAsk lots of questions... I might need help finding resources for my business map and connection toolkit! Like how large scale do I want to go with this? I'm thinking county wide, but Pine county is huge!
{Lowe, Brenda}07:31:57 pmthis is great! You are really thinking about this and I feel you will all having amazing outcomes as a result
Kirchoff, Heather07:31:55 pmSee if anything similar has been done. Ask around - to my instructor, especially. What has worked well and not so well with similar ideas? Survey the families that I'm doing this for.. is there anything specific they're really struggling with and could use our facility's support or resources for? What can I tangible offer with my resources?
{Lowe, Brenda}07:32:12 pmInput and questions - and then more input and questions
{Lowe, Brenda}07:32:17 pmGood addition Heather
{Lowe, Brenda}07:32:43 pm*
Kirchoff, Heather07:32:38 pm*
Roering, Angela07:32:39 pm*
Ross, Amber07:32:41 pm*
Ascheman, Rosalie07:32:31 pm*
Frazier, April07:25:57 pm*
{Foster-Jorgensen, Karen}07:32:44 pm*
Brank, Nicole07:32:45 pm*
Peralta, Mirla07:32:48 pm*
{Lowe, Brenda}07:33:02 pmAre you thinking of your capstone as a change or NEW process or revitalization of an old?
Frazier, April07:26:34 pmRevitalization of an old
Roering, Angela07:33:21 pmMy project would revitalize our onboarding process - moving from paper to electronic format
Ross, Amber07:33:35 pmChange but can be a revitalization of what we already have
Yoswa, Toni07:33:39 pmNew process
Brank, Nicole07:33:45 pmRevitalization of the old
Kirchoff, Heather07:33:51 pmAn extension of a current process.. so, kind of a new one? Taking a roots idea and growing it with a stem, leaves, and blossom to be better viewed and appreciated so everyone knows its there!
Ascheman, Rosalie07:33:49 pmThis would be totally new for our program
{Lowe, Brenda}07:34:18 pmOhhh we do have a mix. I can't wait to hear more about this as we go along
{Foster-Jorgensen, Karen}07:34:16 pmBoth approaches will bring something new to your role and your organization! Exciting!
Peralta, Mirla07:34:30 pmNew process
{Lowe, Brenda}07:34:49 pmat least you can all see what each other is thinking and feeling on this and also that you are not alone in your thoughts
{Lowe, Brenda}07:35:00 pmAgreed Karen
{Lowe, Brenda}07:35:19 pmAnd exciting the impact you are all going to have to our field
Evans, Casey07:35:18 pm**NEW process/community engagement!
{Lowe, Brenda}07:35:44 pmwe have a good mix of new - revitalization - extension
{Lowe, Brenda}07:36:09 pmand if you get on your journey and you need to alter what you are thinking that is perfectly ok too. That's where your advisor will be super helpful
{Lowe, Brenda}07:36:12 pm*
Ross, Amber07:36:10 pm*
Frazier, April07:29:25 pm*

{Foster-Jorgensen, Karen}07:36:18 pm*
Kirchoff, Heather07:36:18 pm*
Ascheman, Rosalie07:36:06 pm*
Brank, Nicole07:36:21 pm*
Peralta, Mirla07:36:27 pm*
{Lowe, Brenda}07:36:42 pmWhat questions do you have about anything under the sun?
Ross, Amber07:36:50 pmI'm sure I will have more after I start my paper!
{Lowe, Brenda}07:37:07 pmAmber LOL
{Lowe, Brenda}07:37:17 pmI'm sure you will!
Ascheman, Rosalie07:37:11 pmI'm with Amber... I've already started writing some down
Kirchoff, Heather07:37:32 pmDo you have a favorite capstone project you've seen through all the cohorts so far?
Ross, Amber07:37:44 pmHeather, good question!
{Foster-Jorgensen, Karen}07:38:23 pmHope you don't mind me adding this! From experiences, building your timeline is really important. Breaking your project steps into doable chunks for each week or two weeks gives you time to really ponder your steps and keep on track to accomplishment!
Brank, Nicole07:38:44 pmThank you for the tip!
Kirchoff, Heather07:38:54 pmThat's helpful, Karen!
{Lowe, Brenda}07:39:15 pmGreat question - I've seen seasons with themes. So for example one year I was flooded with educators who wanted to revamp their onboarding and/or training system because they could se a lack and it was evident with the turnover and feedback they were getting from the staff. But that also speaks to the climate we were /are in . Each capstone project has been done from the heart of where they could see a need
{Lowe, Brenda}07:39:33 pmexcellent addition Karen
Evans, Casey07:39:28 pm**I am with you Amber... Life has been just flying by me, seriously! I have been working through medical stuff for a couple-few months now and medically, I struggle to be awake at times. Quite scary actually..
{Foster-Jorgensen, Karen}07:39:32 pmMy favorite project have been where directors are so excited to have accomplished their goals!
Yoswa, Toni07:40:01 pmI am actually really nervous about keeping up on the work. With it being this time of year, back to school, fall /winter activities, and work load. I feel like my work may get rushed and sloppy. Just being honest πŸ™
{Lowe, Brenda}07:40:09 pmand you may not be able to 'complete' the entire project within the time for the capstone but you can have a plan for 'phase 2' if that makes sense
Evans, Casey07:40:04 pm**Karen - I appreciate that advice a lot! Sounds like it is easier to tackle that way.
Ross, Amber07:40:12 pmCasey-That is no fun! Sending you well wishes!
Evans, Casey07:40:22 pmToni, the back to school part is so REAL.
{Foster-Jorgensen, Karen}07:40:25 pmPersonally I enjoy business development and financial projects, so those have been especially rewarding to see achieved
Ascheman, Rosalie07:40:28 pmI'm kind of nervous too Toni! I feel like my project might be too big for me to get done!
{Lowe, Brenda}07:40:50 pmI agree - the sense of accomplishment from Leaders and how proud they are about ideas is so amazing. The energy is contagious
{Lowe, Brenda}07:41:12 pmThat is scary casey
Evans, Casey07:41:04 pmWe got this y'all!!
Brank, Nicole07:41:10 pmWe got this!!
{Foster-Jorgensen, Karen}07:41:25 pmYou will all do well! Pace yourself and love it as you go along!
Frazier, April07:34:46 pmYes, we got this
Brank, Nicole07:41:33 pmI like Karen's idea of small steps, that makes it seem more doable.
Kirchoff, Heather07:41:42 pmProgress not perfection! This is a great group and I know everyone will make wonderful steps towards their goal πŸ™‚
{Lowe, Brenda}07:41:51 pmI'll be honest - we are entering a busy time of the year..back to school and then multiple holidays for all cultures after that. So carving out some intentional time will be key
Evans, Casey07:42:04 pm**Brenda, it really is. I have had some moments at work lately where my staff are worried/scared and I am incoherent, etc. Blood work for days it feels like!
{Lowe, Brenda}07:42:14 pmYup pace yourself. Set yourself deadlines for accomplishment
Ross, Amber07:42:06 pmBrenda, so true! That will be my plan!
{Lowe, Brenda}07:42:31 pmand actually the assignments as we go along will help you stay on track
Evans, Casey07:42:42 pmI am lucky to have teammates like April and staff that I can be vulnerable with to help me through this time.
{Foster-Jorgensen, Karen}07:42:49 pmKeeping a running journal of your ideas and work steps has also been helpful. And great in writing your project report at the end!
{Lowe, Brenda}07:43:05 pmAdvice - don't wait to the end and then cram it in. It doesn't feel good. Make this about you and how you can implement somethng you can use now or later in your career
Yoswa, Toni07:43:10 pmBrenda that is what I am afraid of, carving time from where.. LOL (on top of it kids sports not work related) ... all the things. πŸ˜€
{Lowe, Brenda}07:43:22 pmAnd then reach out to us for support and questions
Brank, Nicole07:43:14 pmGood advice Brenda!
{Lowe, Brenda}07:43:54 pmIt's so hard Toni. An example would be 30m every Tuesday that will be my think and reflect time. Plan time Jot down sloppy notesw
Evans, Casey07:43:49 pm**Toni that made me giggle. Truly, carve out of where. We need 28-30 hour days (sad laugh haha!)
{Foster-Jorgensen, Karen}07:43:57 pmYes, listen to Brenda! Star now! πŸ™‚
{Lowe, Brenda}07:44:06 pmand then keep building upon it
