This course provides an overview of Family Systems Theory which represents a shift in focus from considering the individual child only, to the child within the context of her/his family and community. Family systems theory provides another tool in the provider toolbox for understanding why children and parents act or think the way they do. Participants will come away with an understanding of parenting styles, family-sensitive caregiving, and the impact of trauma on the health and well-being of families, including historical trauma.
